MID FIELD TERMINAL
ABU DHABI INT. AIRPORT

BRIEF

MIDFIELD TERMINAL, ABU DHABI, UAE | LIWA MINOR
Abu Dhabi International Airport
2,000 square metres
Anticipated 17 million passengers per year

Situated between the two runways at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the new Dh19 billion Midfield Terminal will be the largest architectural structure in the capital. At its widest, its roof span is 319 metres, and it has 18 arches, the largest of which is 180 metres wide and 5 metres high.
This ambitious project will provide a home base for the UAE’s national carrier, Etihad Airways. Upon completion, the terminal will increase the total passenger capacity of Abu Dhabi International Airport to more than 30 million travellers per year, with options for this figure to double.

SOLUTION

ODG was appointed by Liwa Minor (a partnership between Al Nasser Holdings and Minor International) to create a comprehensive bid for 3 different brands across 6 locations.

The bid included a concept design, storytelling, bid book writing and editing, as well as a virtual video presentation. A highly creative submission package was designed by the ODG team, in which all the bid supports – from the texture of the book and the tone of voice of the presentation, to the design of the outlets and the final showcase – emphasized the unique strategy and value of Liwa Minor.

RESULT

From the ambition in the initial RFP process to the retail and F&B experiences, the project has set new benchmarks across the board, particularly in its deeply rooted focus on ‘local’ input, passionately emphasized not on ‘passengers’ but on ‘the guest experience’.

Distinctly local elements contribute strongly to the expression of the terminal’s sense of place, from the character of the architecture of the terminal building to how retailers and brands invoke the location in their offer.
